Theme parks day three: Walt Dinsey World’s Magic Kingdom

with No Comments

I never want to see another child again as long as I live!!! Screaming, wailing, snotty brats! Ok so maybe they’re not that bad but Magic Kingdom was full of them.

Magic Kingdom is the part of Walt Disney world designed for the kids – so I guess it wasn’t really that surprising there were so many of them there. It’s the bit you see on the TV with the fireworks over Cinderella’s castle and Mickey Mouse wondering around saying “Hi”. Although the reality’s isn’t quite like on TV.

There were far too many people there for my liking – and the car park wasn’t even half full. I can barley comprehend how awful it would be in peek season! But Naomi wanted to go and see Cinderella’s castle so I gritted my teeth and smiled my way through the day.

We didn’t managed to see Mickey because the queue for photos was well over an hour long, he may be the world’s most famous mouse but I wasn’t queuing for that long to see him! We did however take a wonder around his house, took a look at his bedroom and nosed through his shopping list. We even got a peek inside his tool shed! It was very well done – as was pretty much everything we saw at Disney. We attempted to visit Mini’s house but it was overrun with people pushing pushchairs so we quickly left.

The rides at Magic Kingdom were fairly average – by my standards. Splash Mountain (a log flume) took us through Brer Rabbit’s laughing palace before sending us plunging down a 50 foot drop and making sure we got well and truly soaked at the bottom.

The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was just a fast roller coaster designed to be child friendly so no upsidedowney bits, much to the relief of Uncle John!

The only other big ride was Space Mountain. This indoor roller coaster was really well done in that it was so dark you couldn’t see where the track went. Dips would appear from nowhere leaving you stomach behind as you plunged further into the darkness. Probably the best ride at the park but still no white knuckles!

The park itself was set out nicely with the entrance leading onto Main Street USA where there was an assortment of shops selling all things Disney. This street lead to Cinderella’s castle, which looked very fake and cartoon like. It reminded me a lot of the Coa-Dai temple I saw in Vietnam with it pale pinks, pale blues and cartoon like feel!

We trudged around for most of the day avoiding pushchairs and runaway small children. We did manage to get a very good spot to watch the 3:00pm parade and get some good pictures of the Disney character. Dad almost got to shake hands with Tigger and was incredibly excited. Good job Tigger didn’t actually come over cause I think Dad may have passed out if confronted with the Tigger himself!

Once we’d done the park – trying to avoid the kids section we left and went for dinner at the nearby Planet Hollywood. This was also heaving and we ended up sitting in the bar cause it was the only place we could get a table! The food was good and came quickly meaning we could get back to Disney for the 9:00pm night parade.

In Planet Hollywood.

The parade was very pretty. All the floats were covered in flashing lights and it was designed to be a parade of lights. Then afterwards they put on a spectacular fireworks display. It was easily the best fireworks I’ve ever seen and set to a narrated soundtrack about dreams coming true – something which had been an annoying but typically Disney theme throughout the day!

A very long and tiring day with far too many people and children but I’ve done it now – NEVER again! Plus I got to see Cinderella’s castle what more could a girl want!?
