Let battle commence

Oh the dramas of living in this county and having a boss who blatantly has zero respect for you and deliberately tries to make life as difficult as possible!

Yesterday produced just one more drama in a catalogue of events stretching back to arriving and being dumped in a cockroach infested hole!

A few weeks ago we (Kat and I) agreed our Christmas holiday dates with our boss. Our contract states that we get all Korean holidays plus four days to be organised by the school. So like dutiful employees we asked nicely if he could give us our winter vacation dates so we could plan to so something. Not telling him we were planning on going to Japan, because he doesn’t like his foreign instructors to leave the country.

After a few days of battling for the dates he finally told me that the 28th and 29th December were the school’s formal holiday and we would defiantly get those off. Then we could choose to have either 27th Dec and 2nd of Jan and one extra day later in the year or both days off. He added that the 26th Dec or the 3rd Jan were impossible. Fair enough. At least we knew what the dates were. Or so we thought….

We went out last weekend and booked our flights and accommodation for four days in Japan. We leave on the morning of 28th Dec and return in the evening of the 2nd Jan and so are only taking three days of the possible four days holiday. The just as we were getting excited about spending new year in Tokyo he went and put a MASSIVE spanner in the works.

In his infinite wisdom he has now decided that those are NOT the vacation dates after all and we cannot have the 28th or 29th Dec off because he: “Has to think of his school!” And those may not be the dates the high schools have off. Not that it makes much difference because we work at a Hogwon, which is a private school, so the kids have to come regardless of whether they are at normal school or not!

But now vacation looks set to be the “impossible” 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th Jan instead. No regard for the fact that we made plans or have spent a whopping 1.2 million won between the three of us!

So today is battle day. I am sitting in this PC room feeling sick with nerves at the though of walking back to that school and telling him tough. He gave us those dates and those are the dates we are taking unless he wants to reimburse us the 1.2million won we have spent on booking our trip. Problem is we have to do all this without telling him we are going to Japan cause if he finds that out there is no way we will get those dates off. Oh the joy.

I really am starting to despise this job. Which is a shame cause if it wasn’t for him everything here would be good. I guess it’s a good lesson in working for someone you vhemently dislike.
