The 2nd of March 2007 one year, or 365 days, from now it will be the 1st of March 2008 (next year is a leap year). And I will be back on English soil for the first time in 18 months. So it seemed appropriate that when I got up this morning it was raining!
It seems like, with one year to go, the count down to coming home has really begun. When I left it was over a year away, but now as the months pass it’s going to be 11 months then 10 months, nine months then eventually one month!!!
Don’t get me wrong I’m not sad about coming home there are some people in England that I can’t wait to see, my family for one and the boy (my cat). Then Hudson, Laura and her (what will be) six month old that I’ll have never met, Helene, Sarah and her new baby, Andy, my car – ohh how I long to drive the baby! Plus other people that I’ve neglected to mention. But at the same time as wanting to see my family and friends I don’t want ‘The Journey’ to end.
Things haven’t always been good in Korea, with my job, at times it’s only just been bearable but I’ve learnt so much and experienced so much here. Living in a foreign country, getting to grips with a different culture and learning to accept its idiosyncrasies. Trying new food even when a whole octopus appears in a pan in front of you and learning to enjoy food I’d never heard of six months ago. One of the great things at the moment is knowing there there is so much more still to come as I travel through Asia and Australasia.
As my time in Korea draws to a close I am increasingly hankering after new countries and new experiences, but now more then ever I am reminded that I have a finite amount of time to cram everything in. I guess the answer is to enjoy each country while I can and, if I so desire, beginning planning my next adventure as soon as I return to good old rainy England.
