Did it feel like Christmas?

Before I start on the mammoth blogfest that is Japan it’s time to take you back to Christmas Day.

Did it feel like Christmas? A question I have been asked by many people who enjoyed a ‘normal’ Christmas with their families. The answer is Yes and No!

Parts of Christmas Day felt like Christmas: – I ate roast dinner, fell asleep in front the TV, played Tell me (after a stroke of pure genius from my sister – anyone outside the family won’t have a clue what this is but it is simply impossible to have Christmas day without Tell Me!) – and, thanks to my Nan, I had a toy that played annoying Christmas music every time someone made a noise! So it was almost like home!

However once Boxing day arrived and I was back to work it was as though Christmas had never happened!

Here is a glimpse into my Christmas Day Korean style.

Christmas day started in a very different way to normal: as I attempted my first ever Christmas Day lie-in I was rudely awakened at 9:15am by my dad and sister. Having just got in from the pub in England, in their inebriated states, they’d decided to call to wish me a Happy Christmas Eve!

After my wake up call I lazed around waiting for the girls (Kat and Emily) to get up for breakfast before giving up and cooking myself a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich – no Nanny to cook the sausages this year!

Then I headed to the PC room to send some Christmas emails before coming back to the flat to open presents with the girls. Being away from home the present opening was even more exciting as I had almost no idea what I had got.

My presents this year were defiantly some of the best thought out. The slippers and ‘genius’ Tell me game from my dad and sister were very much appreciated.

And the travel alarm clock from my mum means I can now set three alarms (I used to use my Korean and English mobile phones) instead of just two to make sure I get to school on time!

Once we had finished opening presents our guest, Sam, had arrived and we’d had a glass of mulled wine it was time to attempt dinner. We did remarkably well considering there wasn’t an oven in sight. You be amazed at how well you can cook roast potatoes with a bit of oil and a frying pan!!!

Christmas day
An impressive dinner that includes roast chicken (from the man on the street corner!), roast potatoes, gravy, bread and apple sause, brocolli, carrots and sweetcorn and a chocolate cake (from the bakery) for desert!

Then it was time to settle down and fall asleep in front the television before rounding off the day talking to people who were just beginning their Christmas on the other side of the world!
