I have just wasted the last 40 minutes of my life sitting through a video of last year’s kindergarten “perpormance” (or performance if you can pronounce your F’s (many Koreans can’t!))! I think, in preparation for planning this years “perpormance” – it would really help if the teachers could speak English!
I was informed this morning – that the kindy kids would be doing a performance in February and I get the impression I am expected to play some part in helping plan it. I think my role will involve standing in a classroom of excruciatingly board kids trying to coax them to memorise yet more stories and songs, so they can stand in front of their proud parents – looking incredibly board – and recite them.
Now, why am I complaining about this – it is part of my job to help with such things: – Agreed. My problem is that Katrina and I are expected to become part of the performance. It has occurred to me that standing on stage in front of the kids parents will be less excruciating than my experience at the Maskdance festival, but none of the Korean teachers are in the performance! I hate the way foreigners are paraded like dancing bears in front the parents, then treated like s**t behind the scenes. You’d think if we are so important they would treat us better.
I guess it will be fun. And after watching the video at least I know I can do better than the previous foreign teacher. So i guess it’s just a case of get up there and enjoy it. At least Katrina will be with me – not that she knows that yet!!!
